SAFETY NOTICE FOR ARJO HOIST

A Medical Device Alert (MDA) has been issued for Arjo Maxilift patient hoists manufactured by Arjo Med AB Ltd. According to the MHRA, the MDA has been issued due to corrosion and fatigue of the roll pin on certain designs of hoists causing the hanger bar to detach from the jib.

The report states that Arjo Med AB Ltd issued a Field Safety Notice (FSN) in May 2009 but has not been able to trace all hoists especially where they may have been passed on to second or subsequent users. The suggested actions are to trace all Arjo Maxilift hoists, inspect the hanger bar attachment to identify the type of attachment and the action required and to ensure that all hoists are regularly maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
